First Time Smoker? We Can Help

At BuddhaTime, we generally speak to the seasoned, experienced smoker. But with cannabis now legalized, more first time tokers are popping up everyday. Thinking back to our first few times trying marijuana, we felt underprepared for what to expect and how to consume it, and with that in mind we’d like to offer some tips and instructions to new users so they’re not flying blind.

1. Realistically, You Probably Won’t Get High The First Time

This is point one because it tends to be the most surprising aspect of a new smokers experience. We’ve had it happen to us, and seen it happen to many others, some people just don’t feel high after their first few times. Usually this is due to improper smoking techniques and taking things very slowly and cautiously (which is probably a good idea anyways). If you don’t feel anything after 30 minutes, keep going.

2. Inhale, Inhale, Inhale

A lot of people who complain about point number 1 forget this very important step in the smoking process. Inhale the smoke. We can’t stress this enough, because simply taking a light little puff and holding it in your mouth will do very little to get you high. In our experience with other first timers, after we tell them to inhale deep and hold it in, they burst out in a fit of coughing and then immediately feel high. That’ll probably happen to you, but don’t worry, it’s a good thing. It means you properly inhaled your toke!

3. Choose Your Smoking Buddies Carefully

Everyones first time is different, and some high strung people may find themselves more anxious after smoking. If that’s the case, the last thing you want is to be in an environment you’re not comfortable in surrounded by people you don’t particularly enjoy the company of. If you’re smoking for the first time, either have a good friend go along for the ride with you, or simply hang out at home with your own thoughts. Comfort is king with cannabis.

4. Understand Your Smoking Device

First time smokers should keep it simple and either smoke a joint or pipe. This makes it easier to understand the amount you’re smoking, unlike some other devices. If it’s your first time and someone offers you a hit from a dab rig or gravity bong, we recommend you pass. That’s like being drafted to the major leagues when you barely understand the rules of the sport.

5. Know Your Product

In the early days of marijuana consumption, there wasn’t much of a distinction between strains and growing methods. To put it simply, weed was weed. Nowadays, you can choose strains based on a number of factors. The main concept you need to understand is the difference between Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid strains. Sativa strains tend to keep you alert, active, and creative, whereas Indica strains are meant to relax you and medicate your daily aches and pains. Hybrids are mixes of Sativa and Indica strains, and can be engineered to produce very specific effects. Take a look through our flower to get a sense of the difference! We hope those 5 tips help all you first time smokers out there. Looking back, our first experiences would’ve been much better if we knew all of this, so don’t be afraid to share these with your friends.
