The Ultimate Guide on How to Store Weed

Maintaining the quality of your bud for the best smoke possible is something that is often ignored by many cannabis users. Overall, good quality marijuana and heat don’t tend to mix well. When exposed to too much heat, weed will have its cannabinoids and terpenes dried out, worsening its quality. Moisture within warm air is also a threat to the quality of weed. With that said, just because the weather is getting warmer doesn’t mean you should stop smoking. In this article, our BuddhaTime experts will explain 3 effective hacks to help keep your weed’s quality at top tier, ensuring that when you spark that joint of yours, you’re getting the best buzz possible.

Marijuana Storage: Glass is Your Best Friend

Glass jars are always going to be the elite choice for marijuana storage. Plastic Ziplocks and baggies are a close second but aren’t ideal for long term storage. With glass jars, the only times humid oxygen can enter the jar is when its being opened and closed. No matter how long you keep your bud within a glass jar, it will come out the same quality as long as you remember to fully close the lid and store it in a shaded area. One more major benefit of storing weed in a glass jar is that you don’t have to worry about the smell! Some potent strains can reek (which is a good thing). Mason jars can be purchased practically everywhere and come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes.

Temperature & Location

In general, marijuana is best stored in a glass jar located in a cool and shadowed area. A potential downside of storing marijuana in glass jars is the exposure to light. Light (especially sunlight) is able to damage your weed and possibly worsen your experience by depriving it of its terpenes and other properties. With this in mind, a cupboard, drawer, room, cabinet or under your bed are all great locations to keep your sealed kush fresh. Temperature-wise, the most ideal temperature for storage purposes would approximately be 0ºC to 20ºC (32ºF to 68ºF). One more thing to note: storing cannabis in a fridge or freezer ruins it! If bud is frozen, it becomes very brittle and loses its trichomes, giving you much weaker smoke and potency.

Size and Organization

One of the most important things to remember when storing marijuana is to never keep different strains in the same compartment. It is key to keep your strains separate from one another for a few reasons. Not only are their individual flavour profiles important and all different, mixing marijuana can change the outcome of either how much you smoke or what you smoke. Another factor to consider is sizing and your amount. Before purchasing a mason jar or whatever you wish to use as storage, think of how much weed you will be purchasing, how much you will be using, and then match that with a jar size. Both organization and preparation when it comes to marijuana storage are equally important and being lazy with your weed can potentially lead to ruined or spoiled weed.
